Meet Croissantcat: the Cat Made of a Croissant Who Started the Bakery
If you've been searching for a croissant cat, this is the one. Croissantcat is the founding cat of Bakery Cats Co: the very first Bakery Cat, and the one that started it all. Here's everything the official stories tell us about it.

What is Croissantcat made of?
A flaky golden croissant. According to the official profile, Croissantcat has curved layers of pastry wrapped all the way round, from the round cheeks to the tip of the tail. Every Bakery Cat works this way: the body is the food.
The very first Bakery Cat
Before there were ten Bakery Cats, or a Halloween squad, or a single Christmas cat, there was Croissantcat. Toastcat came next, the second cat ever made, "straight after Croissantcat." Today there are 23 cats in the bakery.
A day in the bakery, in Croissantcat's own paws
The official Cat Diary, Where It All Began, follows Croissantcat through one day:
- 6am: first in, as the first cat of all should be, giving the ovens a slow, approving look while they warm up.
- 7am: Pretzelcat stretches into a knot by the window, Bagelcat settles beside the coffee pot, Pancakecat is already talking about breakfast, and Croissantcat greets every one of them with that wide, happy smile.
- 10am: a stroll along the counter, pastry layers catching the light, keeping an eye on everything without making a fuss.
- 1pm: sleepy Browniecat asks what the bakery was like at the very beginning.
- 4pm: the windows glow golden, and Croissantcat counts the cats curled up around the bakery.
- 6pm: lights off, ovens cooling. "Perfectly content, layer upon layer."
"Small," comes the answer. "Warm. Just one cat and a good idea."
Croissantcat to Browniecat, from the official Cat Diary
The diary sums up Croissantcat's whole outlook: "Being the founding cat is not about being in charge... It is about being there."
Comic No. 1: A Flaky Day Out
Croissantcat also stars in the very first Bakery Cats comic. It's a free printable A4 comic for kids, and it sets up the joke the whole series loves: being made of food is a hazard. "Fresh out of the oven and off to the seaside. What could go wrong?" Quite a lot, it turns out. The seagulls squawk and peck ("OI! I'm not a snack!"). A quick disguise as "just an ordinary croissant" nearly gets Croissantcat sold over the counter ("Sorry! Not for sale!"). Back home, Muffincat asks, "Rough day?", and the answer is "Chased, floured AND nearly sold!" Then the final panel: "...and now they've formed a QUEUE!" "Well, it IS Britain!"

Croissantcat's friends
- Toastcat, the second cat ever made, and the warmest welcome in the bakery.
- Cakecat, the third founding cat: every day is a celebration, with a cherry on top.
- Muffincat, who's there with a "Rough day?" at the end of the comic.
- Browniecat, who wants to hear how it all began.
Can you buy Croissantcat?
Not right now. The official site says there isn't a Croissantcat item in the shop at the moment. The rest of the bakery is in the Bakery Cats Co shop, made to order, with free UK delivery on tees and sweatshirts. For gift ideas, see our Christmas gifts for bakers and cat lovers.
