Wafflecat is a cartoon cat made out of a golden waffle: a rounded square of crisp batter with a deep grid of little square pockets and a cheerful face right in the middle of the grid. Plain and proud, with no syrup and no butter, thank you very much.

Wafflecat runs the bakery on a tight grid schedule. Breakfast, nap, second breakfast, a little tidy-up, then a sit-down to recover from the tidy-up. Every pocket of the day has its job, and Wafflecat likes to tick them off one square at a time. Crisp on the outside, purring on the inside, and never, ever late for Sunday brunch.

Favourite spot: the warm shelf above the waffle iron, where every new batch sends up a sweet little puff of steam. From up there Wafflecat can watch the clock and the front door at the same time.

Quirks: lines the sugar cubes up in neat rows, gets a bit flustered when a plan goes off-grid, and forgives everyone instantly over a pot of tea. If you are the sort of person who plans the whole weekend around brunch, Wafflecat is your cat.
